Description

Reporting to the Director of Project Services, the Estimator is responsible for developing cost estimates as part of proposal submissions as well as the ongoing improvement and development of the estimating systems and software. The candidate must be capable of performing all facets of a construction estimate including determination of quantities, costing and sub-trade participation and pricing. Key Responsibilities: Working with the lead Estimator, this role is responsible for preparing and overseeing all aspects of the estimate/tender/RFP/ RFQ / RFT or other form of bid documentation Reviews proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work Prepares detailed estimates for all facets of the planned scope Maintains files of working documents as backup for estimate figures including current information on supplier pricing Obtains Sub Contractor pricing as required Obtains material & equipment rental pricing as required Ensure consistency and quality of estimates in reporting to operations, management and client Continuously upgrades/improves and enhances software used for estimating Accountable and responsible for accuracy and completeness of assigned estimates References historical costs and production to current cost estimates for continuous improvement Completes post bid analysis as required Requirements Clear and thorough understanding of how to prepare a cost estimate and quantity takeoff Clear and professional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills Ability to deal effectively with all levels within different functional areas of the company as well as external customers Exceptional analytical, planning and organizational skills Proven decision making competence Expertise in Excel and MS office programs such as MS Project Preference Given to Persons who are/have: Technical, university, or trade certificate (electrician, lineman or the like) 5 years or more project management or field supervision Over 5 years’ experience in commercial construction estimating, transmission and/or distribution power systems.   The position we are seeking to fill will be based out of either our Head Office located in Abbotsford, BC, or our main Alberta facility in Calgary. Scope of Position: Under the Director of Planning, the Project Lead, Long Range Planning and Special Projects is responsible for the coordination and delivery of studies and projects related to a variety of complex planning issues. In particular, the incumbent is responsible for supporting the development and project management of various policy documents including the Official Plan, municipally initiated Official Plan Amendments, Secondary Plans and Zoning By-laws, and non-legislated planning documents such as Urban Design Guidelines. The incumbent prepares policy-planning reports involving research, analysis, evaluation, and the preparation of professional planning recommendations, including providing advice and/or guidance to staff and Council on the broader implications of land use policies as well as organizing and facilitating related community engagement and stakeholder involvement initiatives. Duties and Responsibilities: Coordinates, prepares, and/or project manages policy planning projects on a day-to-day basis, with an emphasis on long-range planning congruent with County’s strategic directions and provincial planning legislation and policies, including municipal-led updates to the Official Plan. Lead the preparation of plans for specific communities, such as Simcoe, Delhi, Waterford and other areas, including conducting stakeholder engagement.
