Experienced High School English Tutor I am a certified, experienced (20+ years), full-time high school English teacher now accepting students for private summer tutoring. Most of my summer students are enrolled in four-week intensified Summer School programs. They face challenging expectations and an increased workload, completing approximately one month’s worth of assignments for each week of Summer School class. Other students are preparing for high school, and strengthening core fundamentals. I support students by: ✅ Customizing and delivering lessons that help students meet assignment instructions and success criteria. ✅ Teaching them core skills to be independently successful without generative technology (AI). Many tasks are now assigned in-class because of AI’s ubiquity. ✅ Demonstrating how students can apply their teachers’ feedback with new assignments for continuous improvement. ✅ Focusing instruction on areas of need based on my independent assessment, and offering precise, detailed, instant feedback. ✅ Checking for student understanding. ✅ Helping them organize and manage tasks so they meet daily goals and weekly milestones. My areas of instructional expertise include: ✅ The essay-writing process: from brainstorming to thesis development, outlining, drafting, editing and revising, and publishing; M.L.A. ✅ Textual analysis and close readings of fiction and non-fiction, short and long works, including the identification of literary devices and persuasive techniques. ✅ Media Studies (e.g., film, television, podcasts, etc). ✅ Commonly taught texts (e.g., Shakespearean works, 1984, Brave New World, Lord of the Flies, The Kite Runner, Indian Horse, etc.). I offer classes exclusively online: ✅ All sessions are held on Zoom. I use tools like screen sharing and Google Docs for interactive lessons.
