Description

Reporting to the CEO, the Controller will provide strategic financial leadership, ensuring integrity, accuracy, and timeliness in all reporting, while safeguarding organizational assets. The Controller will take full accountability for the finance function, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and operational oversight of payroll, accounts receivable, and accounts payable. In addition to managing processes, the Controller will develop, mentor, and lead the finance team, establishing clear roles, expectations, and performance standards to ensure a high-functioning, reliable department.  This role requires a high level of organization and attention to detail, with the ability to balance operational responsibilities with strategic insight, risk management, and long-term planning. The Controller will provide actionable financial analysis, lead audits, and ensure compliance with regulatory and funding obligations, while driving continuous improvement across the finance team and systems.  KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide strategic leadership and accountability for all financial operations, ensuring accurate, timely, and reliable reporting. Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes; identify opportunities for cost savings, efficiency improvements, and strategic growth. Maintain and strengthen financial systems, policies, and internal controls to protect organizational assets. Ensure compliance with regulatory, contractual, and funding requirements. Oversee the preparation and presentation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and Board reports, with a focus on accuracy and timeliness. Develop, mentor, and manage the finance team, setting clear expectations, deadlines, and performance standards; ensure staff are trained, organized, and accountable. Monitor and evaluate operational processes, including payroll, accounts receivable, and accounts payable, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and alignment with best practices. Provide actionable financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making by the CEO and Board. Collaborate with external auditors and regulatory bodies to support audits and compliance reviews. Champion continuous improvement initiatives across the finance function, including system enhancements and process optimization. Requirements CPA designation with 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience. Demonstrated success leading and developing finance teams, including setting clear expectations, mentoring staff, and fostering accountability. Proven track record of producing accurate, timely, and high-quality financial reports for executive leadership and Boards. Strong expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning. Experience with job costing, financial consolidations, and Sage software. Knowledge of cost accounting, inventory control, margin analysis, and consolidations. Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership abilities, with the ability to influence and drive results across the organization. Proficiency in Microsoft Office with strong attention to detail. Experience working with First Nations organizations is an asset. Knowledge of forestry, mining, or construction industries is considered an asset. Proven ability to establish and maintain effective internal controls and financial processes. Are you detail-oriented with a knack for numbers? We're looking for an Accounting Associate, Royalties & Reporting to join our growing team! In this role you'll be responsible for preparing and issuing quarterly royalty reports to producers and rights holders, managing the reporting schedule, and ensuring all tax (including withholding tax) and related obligations are handled accurately. You proactively encourage collaboration, build trust and inclusion, and work to establish effective relationships both inside and outside of the organization What your day looks like: Conduct onsite and/or remote examinations of CIRO (both mutual funds and investment), branch and sub-branch locations of our dealer business Prepare pre-visit audit materials and schedule and plan examinations in accordance with regulatory requirements and dealer policies and procedures Communicate audit results and follow up on action items Update and maintain the audit schedule and prepare detailed audit reports, identifying issues, recommending corrective actions, and following up with our financial institution partners in closing outstanding items in accordance with existing policy and procedures Support the maintenance and improvement of the Branch Review Program in accordance with updated regulatory changes and dealer policies and procedures Perform various internal testing and examinations at head office as required and perform other duties and special projects Requirements Your experience and skills: University Degree related to finance and securities preferred Successful completion of requisite courses (ie: Canadian Securities Course) with an ability to be licensed with CIRO 3 to 5 years of compliance supervision experience within the financial services industry Experience as a Branch Compliance Officer, Branch Manager, Branch Auditor, Compliance Officer, or Financial Advisor in a mutual fund dealer or investment dealer firm is preferred Sound knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the securities industry Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word Experience operating in a Credit Union system and familiarity with Dataphile is an asset Excellent analytical and investigative skills with strong attention to detail Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to present information to different audiences Excellent organizational and time management skills Disciplined work ethic and committed to producing excellence in work output Ability to work with minimum supervision with a strong commitment to customer service This position must have the ability to travel to branch locations up to 25%.
