Job Description An Early Childhood Assistant (ECA) supports early childhood educators in caring for and educating children, typically from birth to age five, by leading activities, assisting with daily routines, and maintaining a safe and stimulating environment. Key Responsibilities of an Early Childhood Assistant: • Childcare and Education: o Assist with planning and implementing age-appropriate activities that promote cognitive, physical, emotional, and social development. o Lead children in activities like storytelling, singing, and crafts. o Support children with daily routines, including eating, dressing, and toileting. o Supervise children during indoor and outdoor play and rest periods. o Provide emotional support and guidance to children. • Environment and Organization: o Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for meals and rest periods. o Maintain a clean, safe, and organized learning environment. o Assist with preparing and maintaining teaching aids and equipment. • Communication and Record Keeping: o Submit written observations on children to early childhood educators or supervisors. o Assist with record-keeping and paperwork. o Participate in staff meetings to discuss children's progress and challenges. o Communicate effectively with parents and other staff members. • Other Duties: o May assist with housekeeping and cooking duties. o May assist with preparing and serving meals and snacks. o May work with children with special needs. o Maintain and clean daycare equipment.
