Description

The Prep Team Member is responsible for preparing ingredients and materials needed for production, ensuring that all items are measured, washed, chopped, and ready for the next stages of the production process while using. This role involves following strict food safety and quality standards, including adhering to GMP practices and HACCP guidelines to meet production output. The Prep Team Member plays a critical role in maintaining smooth operations, keeping work areas clean, and ensuring all ingredients are properly stored and labeled. This position requires attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities: Ingredient Preparation & Handling: Prepare ingredients according to work orders, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and correct portioning. Handle all food items in accordance with GMP and HACCP standards to maintain product safety and integrity. Follow allergen management practices to avoid cross-contamination. Ensure raw materials are cooked according to CCP standards and protocols. Labeling & Organization: Label all containers and bins accurately with the correct product name, lot number, and date codes. Organize prepped items in designated storage areas following FIFO (First In, First Out) principles. Maintain clean and clearly labeled workstations throughout the shift. Compliance & Cleanliness: Follow all personal hygiene, food safety, and sanitation standards. Regularly clean and sanitize equipment, prep surfaces, and utensils. Maintain a clean and organized work area to prevent contamination and ensure safety. Teamwork & Support: Collaborate with fellow team members to meet daily prep targets and ensure a smooth workflow. Take direction from the Prep Team Lead or Shift Manager on assigned tasks. Assist in other areas of production (e.g., topping, packaging) as needed. Work Orders & SOPs: Follow SOPs and operational checklists to ensure all prep tasks meet company standards. Accurately complete any task-specific steps required by the work order. Requirements Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Prior experience in a food manufacturing or kitchen environment is an asset. Prior experience performing CCP is an asset. Skills: Ability to follow instructions and standard procedures accurately. Attention to detail and a commitment to food safety and quality. Team-oriented attitude and strong communication skills. Flexibility to assist with various prep tasks and adapt to changing priorities. Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in cold and warm environments. Responsibilities Plan and establish daily work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet daily production targets. Lead, motivate and coach production team members to ensure quality standards and production schedule objectives are met in a timely and efficient manner. Independently find solutions for departmental problems that arise in a timely manner. Manage production output as per the plan of the Production Planner and Production Manager. Manage Workforce Efficiency ($/Mh) + monitor overtime hours. Monitor productivity throughout the shift and adjust tasks, timing, equipment set-up, or input so that production specifications are met, and resources are used efficiently. Prepare production reports on a timely basis. Proactively manage poor performance in accordance with policies and procedures. Work in cooperation with the Quality department to conduct root-cause analysis and to improve quality overall. Monitor and ensure adherence to health and safety regulations, guidelines, and BRC policies. Ensure all Team Members are working safely. Maintain compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), WSIB protocols, and other health and safety regulations, as necessary. Ensure all staff are trained and cross-trained in various roles and responsibilities. Actively engage in the hiring process for new Team Members. Support Team Leaders and Team Members in the implementation of new products through regular meetings and training.   Requirements We are seeking passionate candidates who possess the following experience and competencies: A minimum of secondary school diploma; ideally has a college diploma and/or a Supervisory Certificate. A minimum of two (2) years of Supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a furniture or store fixture environment. Knowledge of the manufacturing operations and techniques including Lean, 5S. Ideally, knowledgeable of an ERP system and aware how MRP functions and its relation to scheduling. Proficient with computer applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel. Ideally, knowledgeable of ERP/Database programs. Proven ability to focus on the Customer and act with the Customer in mind; value importance of providing high-quality products on a timely basis. Ability to achieve results and perform work with energy and drive. Knowledge of Product quality and good production methods. Knowledge of warehouse safety regulations and practices in a warehouse setting to ensure a safe and secure working environment. Ability to use hand tools and operate warehouse equipment, such as Forklifts, Pallet jacks, and Hand trucks. A Valid Forklift License is an asset. Ability to perform under pressure and work in a fast-paced environment. Working Conditions Work Schedule: 3:30 p.m. until 12:00 a.m. Overtime and/or weekend shifts may be necessary based on company needs. This position requires onsite work at the company facility.
