Mic Mac Bar & Grill is looking for an experienced line cook for its busy Dartmouth, Nova Scotia establishment. The cooks must have at least 3 years of experience as a line cook preparing steaks and high-quality home-style fare in high-volume restaurants and large kitchens. The duties of this position are as follows: set up and break down stations; prepare and cook complete meals and dishes according to recipes or personal judgment and experience; weigh measure and mix ingredients; portion, arrange and garnish food; inspect food preparation and serving areas to ensure observance of safe, sanitary food-handling practices; maintain inventory and records of food, supplies, and equipment; clean kitchen and work area; assist in planning menus, determining size of food portions, estimating food requirements; and assist in hiring and training kitchen staff. Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Line Cook/Prep Cook to join our dynamic kitchen team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food and cooking, with experience in food preparation and a strong understanding of food safety practices. This role is essential to maintaining the high standards of our restaurant, ensuring that meals are prepared efficiently and to perfection. Responsibilities Prepare and cook menu items according to established recipes and standards. Assist in the preparation of ingredients, including chopping vegetables, marinating meats, and measuring spices. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen workspace, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. Monitor food stock levels and assist with inventory management. Collaborate with other kitchen staff to ensure timely meal service. Follow proper food handling procedures to minimize waste and ensure quality. Help in the training of new kitchen staff as needed. Skills Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques and cooking methods. Experience in the food industry, particularly in a restaurant or food service environment. Familiarity with food safety standards and best practices for kitchen hygiene. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. Excellent teamwork skills with a willingness to help others in the kitchen. Good communication skills to effectively coordinate with team members.
