I believe building a strong musical foundation allows students the confidence to branch out to various genres including Classical, Jazz, Rock, Blues, Folk, and other popular styles. Understanding the origins of a song or piece of music is often as important as establishing technique, theory, reading, solfège and ear training, and are all acquired tools that will help goals of performance, improvisation, memorisation, song writing and composition. Above all it will add to the appreciation and enjoyment of the instrument and music in general, and foster a broader interest in learning. I have over a decade and a half of experience teaching guitar and music theory, and also worked as a professional sound engineer, arranger, and recording producer. Other credentials: Bachelor of Music, including scholarships at the University of Ottawa and Carleton University in Music, and various other subjects.
