X MARKS THE SPOT with DOROTHY THOMSON Join Dorothy Thomson in this technique class. You will learn how to create complex modern effects in an easy manner. This technique gives complex results and is suitable for an entire quilt or for incredible border or bag effects. What we create in class will finish into a table center, wall hanging or possible bag. Class requirements: Please bring all the sewing related items you would normally require for quilting, including sewing machine, extension cords and lights if required. You specifically will require a ¼” foot, cutting mat, cutter and ruler you use for general cutting. Fabric requirements: Select 2 fabrics you like together. You need enough contrast just so your design will show up, or as much as possible, depending on the effect you are going for. You will need 6 – 8 ½” squares of each of your 2 colors. Cut these 12 squares ahead of class. You will need a contrasting fabric for the X portion. Even thought these are only 1” strips, it is surprising how much you use. Have at least 8” wof to be on the safe side and cut in class as needed. Dorothy Thomson is a local textile artist. She has been sewing since she was a little girl and has been in love with fabric and fibre ever since. Dorothy holds a BSc in Home Economics from the U of S, majoring in Housing and Design. As a 25-year member of the Saskatoon Quilter’s Guild she has presented and taught often. She has been honored with many quilting awards over the years. Her quilting work creates wonderful designs of pattern and color and her thread paintings create vistas of textured earth and sky. Her work can be viewed at Quilting Shows and found in several local shops. Dorothy lives in Saskatoon.
