Nelson Pannka (1928-1972) was a well known Australian Aboriginal artist and a member of the Arunta people from Hermannsburg, near Alice Springs, Northern Territories, Australia. This watercolour by him was purchased on a trip to Australia in 1967 by my father. The painting depicts a landscape in the central desert region of the Northern Territories Australia, in the area of Uluru (Ayer's Rock) known as "Red Centre", and is in a wooden and glass frame. The Red Centre is an extraordinary landscape of desert plains, weathered mountain ranges, rocky gorges and some of Aboriginal Australia's most sacred sites. The framed dimensions are 11" X 6.5". In excellent condtion. The frame has very slight wear. The Mutual Art website states that Nelson Pannka's work has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices ranging from $78 USD to $476 USD, depending on the size and medium of the artwork. On eBay a slightly larger watercolor by the same artist recently sold for $500 US dollars. A number of Australian galleries carry his work, with prices for similar sized watercolours starting at $300 CAD. Price firm, cash only. Cannot ship or deliver, for pickup only.
