This authentic hand carved wooden ceremonial kava bowl was purchased from a villager on the island of Tikopia, in the Solomon Islands, in 1985. It hasn't been used for anything since and has had teak oil applied annually to keep the wood from cracking. Despite this there is a superficial crack along one edge as shown in the photos. The bowl is 12 cm high, and 15.5 cm wide. For those who might not be familiar with it, kava is made from the roots of the Piper methysticum plant, and is a popular drink in the South Pacific, used in ceremonies and for relaxation. It produces feelings of wellbeing.with a mild intoxicating effect, and euphoria. I looked on the internet to get an idea of a price, and on eBay and other similar sites these sell for several hundred dollars surprisingly, so I have priced this one very reasonably at $60. Price firm, cash only. Cannot ship or deliver, for pickup only. If this ad is posted, it is still available.
