We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our growing team. This role is critical to the successful execution of renewable energy construction projects and offers the opportunity to work on some of the most impactful clean energy initiatives in the country. POSITION OVERVIEW: The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating heavy machinery and equipment used in the construction of utility-scale renewable energy projects. This includes site preparation, excavation, grading, and material handling. The Equipment Operator works closely with site supervisors, engineers, and labor crews to ensure project timelines and safety standards are met. Requirements ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Equipment Operation & Site Work Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, graders, telehandlers, loaders, pile drivers, and skid steers in a safe and efficient manner. Perform site preparation tasks including grading, trenching, backfilling, and compacting. Unload and load materials and equipment in laydown yard and on project site. Conduct daily equipment inspections and perform basic maintenance to ensure operational readiness. Follow site plans, blueprints, and instructions from supervisors to complete tasks accurately. Safety & Compliance Adhere to Quanta’s Capacity Program, all company and site-specific safety protocols and procedures. Participate in daily safety briefings and report any hazards or incidents immediately. Ensure equipment is operated within manufacturer guidelines and regulatory standards. Team Collaboration & Communication Work closely with site supervisors, foremen, engineers, and laborers to coordinate tasks and maintain workflow. Communicate effectively to ensure alignment of project goals and timelines. Support other team members as needed to meet project objectives. SKILLS: Strong understanding of heavy equipment operation and maintenance. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and site plans. Excellent spatial awareness and hand-eye coordination. Strong commitment to safety and quality. Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment in a construction environment. Valid operator certifications and licenses as required by provincial regulations. Experience working on renewable energy or large-scale infrastructure projects is an asset. WORKING CONDITIONS: This is a field-based position requiring work in varying weather conditions and terrain. Travel to project sites across Canada is required. Extended hours and weekend work may be necessary based on project demands. This role is responsible for operating trackhoe and backhoe equipment for new shallow underground utility construction in residential subdivisions. This position is based in the Edmonton area. Candidates must reside locally or within a reasonable commuting distance to be considered.
