I am a math tutor and have been tutoring for 10+ years, helping students understand math more clearly, build confidence, and improve their grades. I am an Accountant (CPA) and hold an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from McMaster University. I also achieved marks in the 90s in high-school math. How do I help? At the middle-school level, I focus heavily on strengthening the fundamentals that students need for everything that comes later. This can include: - Multiplication tables and basic number facts - Fractions, decimals and percentages - Positive and negative integers - Ratios and proportions - Order of operations - Basic algebra and solving equations - Word problems - Translating written information into math If a student is struggling with a current topic, I look for the underlying skill that may be missing. For example, a student may appear to be struggling with algebra, but the real problem may be weak multiplication facts, difficulty with fractions, or confusion with negative numbers. Once those fundamentals are stronger, new topics usually become much easier to understand and students can work more independently. What can we work on? 1-on-1 sessions are tailored to the student’s current needs and can include: - Homework help - Difficult concepts - Foundational gaps - Fractions and decimals - Integers - Algebra - Ratios and percentages - Word problems - Chapter and unit reviews - Quiz and test preparation Why focus on the fundamentals now? Grades 6–8 are where students build many of the skills they will rely on in high school. A student who is comfortable with multiplication, fractions, integers, ratios and basic algebra is much better prepared when Grade 9 math becomes faster and more abstract. The goal is not just to finish tonight’s homework. It is to strengthen the skills underneath the homework so future topics become easier. How do I book a free trial?
