Woodfibre Management Ltd. is seeking a full-time, permanent Senior Process Engineer to join the Woodfibre LNG Project. Woodfibre Management Ltd. is a privately held Canadian company based in Vancouver and a subsidiary of Pacific Energy Corporation Limited. Project The Woodfibre LNG Project is located approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. It includes the construction and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the previous Woodfibre pulp mill site, which will have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and will produce approximately 2.1 million tons per year of LNG. The position will require some necessary travel to the EPC contractor’s office in Houston, Texas, USA. The location of work will be based in both Vancouver (Unit 900-1185 W Georgia Street) and Squamish, B.C. (38136 Cleveland Avenue). Position The Senior Process Engineer is an integral part of Woodfibre LNG’s operations team. The Senior Process Engineer will work with a small team of multi-discipline engineers, supporting the plant Operations group through construction, commissioning, start-up and steady state, ensuring safe, reliable and sustainable production, thus meeting our offtaker’s requirements. The successful candidate reports directly to the Engineering Manager and will play an essential part in supporting the company’s operations team, project management team and external stakeholders through the construction and operating phases of the project. Key Responsibilities: The successful applicant will: Provide leadership to a process support team, on Process Engineering, Process Control, Production Planning and Laboratory Services. Support the start-up of the plant, working with the plant Operations group in optimizing the commissioning and start-up schedule. Manage Production Planning and Forecasting and provide support to the Marketing function. Manage the plant feed gas demand and interface with the pipeline operator, Fortis BC. Prepare for, manage and report on process unit and equipment performance test runs. Monitor and report on the performance of the plant process units and utility systems on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, with the objective to continuously improve process safety, reliability and efficiency. Support maximization of plant capacity through process simulation, calculations and reporting. Lead and implement all process safety requirements. Manage a system for plant trip investigation/reporting and reliability improvement. Continuously improve plant performance through initiation and follow through on Management of Change. Lead the HAZOP and other process safety reviews where required. Provide day to day support for operations on production issues. Analyze and report on plant and equipment performance and for cost & efficiency improvement. Manage the plant laboratory and external laboratory service contractor, providing quality assurance for the LNG product. Provide adequate performance measurement and feedback for process support team members. Set and communicate yearly tasks and targets for each person in the process support team. Manage the process support team Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and reporting. Demonstrate a personal commitment to continually improve personnel and process safety in the plant. Champion process safety and manage the process safety systems. Support the plant risk register and mitigations management. Provide technical support to Emergency Response Management team. Participate in audits as required by plant management. Willingness to undertake both international and domestic travel for business. Participate in short term domestic & international assignments if required during the construction, commissioning and start-up phases. Available for call out during plant/production upsets. Participate in competency assurance and training to further improve plant and personnel. Requirements A minimum 7-10 years of proven technical competence within the LNG industry. Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical engineering or related fields. Fluency in English (written and oral). Superior knowledge of and experience with commercial liquefaction technologies. Possess advanced knowledge and working experience in LNG manufacturing process chain, particularly in the areas of Inlet feed-gas Pre-Treatment, Liquefaction and Storage & Loading. Skilled in process simulation and unit performance monitoring. Demonstrated experience in supervision of a process engineering team. Knowledge and experience of project interface requirements during construction and commissioning. Proven experience in production and support of an operating liquefaction plant Experienced in leading plant improvements processes and management. Competent in HAZOP and other technical safety reviews. Experience in management of change systems. Experience in root cause analysis. Communication and interpersonal skills to be able to interact with front line workers through to management level. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Passion for building and guiding a small, dedicated process support team. Energetic in the pursuit of continuous improvement processes. Shares knowledge readily and encourages personal development. You will support the Woodfibre LNG Site team in the implementation and oversight of the Project HSSE Management System, ensuring compliance with legal and contractual HSSE requirements for the project, but also contributing to Woodfibre LNG’s enduring dedication to worker health and safety and environmental responsibility. Recognize, evaluate, and advise on hazard identification and mitigation. Conduct HSSE inspections and audits. Coaches, monitors, and evaluates project team’s completion of quality inspections. Verifies effectiveness of any corrective actions implemented. Assist site HSSE management and supervision with the development and evaluation of the site-specific security and environmental plans. Audit and monitor contractor safety performance to ensure compliance with HSSE programs. Perform compliance and quality audits and support reporting on key statistics and KPI’s related to HSSE. Support project management on the investigation/documentation of incidents and participate in the on-site investigative process. Review incident investigation reports to verify accuracy and completeness, and evaluate corrective actions taken. Assess and ensure the effectiveness of site emergency medical, spill, fire, and rescue response teams. Implement, monitor, and support the project’s HSSE Management System, and any other HSSE-related practices. Develop and maintain strong relationships with management teams and field operations teams. Take a lead role on site, as required, to manage the on-site HSSE team. Other duties as required. Requirements Required Experience: Occupational Health certification or applicable university degree. Minimum 10 years overall experience in a similar role. Experience working with large multi-disciplinary teams, contractors in a multicultural environment. Experience working in the petroleum or industrial construction industry for an owner/operator company. Experience managing HSSE on large-scale projects with EPCM models. Effective conflict resolution skills and experience. Working knowledge of HSSE processes and applicable OH&S and Environmental legislation. Additional Requirements: Strong working knowledge of terminology related to petroleum industry and construction processes. Communication/interpersonal skills – to be able to interact with front line workers through to management and all hierarchical levels. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple tasks and changing priorities within tight time frames. Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment. Expertise with a variety of computer programs (e.g., MS Office). Expertise with incident investigation (RCA) and formal risk assessment processes. ISO auditor experience/certification not required, but beneficial. Motivated and willing to take ownership of tasks. Energetic in pursuit of continuous improvement processes. Shares knowledge readily and encourages personal development. A valid driver’s licence (with abstract). Comply with Company’s Substance Abuse Policy requirements, including pre-access testing.
