Hello all, Advice needed please So I'd like to begin this post with some back info. My husband and I both suffer with health issues and depend solely on disability. Last year my husband was diagnosed with lymphoma and we made the difficult decision to relocate from the Sunshine Coast to Vancouver to be closer to his oncologist at VGH. We were then, away from all of our family and friends. Therefore, we decided to add to our family by adopting a cat. We believed that the addition would not only bring much joy and happiness to our lives, but would also help to give the animal a loving home of its own. We ended up adopting two cats because we could not live with our selves if we hadn't. They were infested with flees, the place was extremely dirty, with feces piling up everywhere, no food or fresh water. It was awful. So... This decision, although the right one. Was now going to put us in a bit of a pickle. We saved up and got the male cat fixed. And began saving up for the female next. However, our neighbor had a male cat who is not fixed and our cat snuck through someone's legs while opening the door and came back PREGNANT! Sighhhh, fast forward 65 days and we have welcomed 4 beautiful babies to our family! Today marks their 8 week birthday and we have found a loving home for 2 of them to join together. Which makes me so happy and relieved. Knowing that they will always have one another is such a great feeling. Anyway, my husband and I have decided to keep the other two because we have fallen in love with them and can't give them up! And to be honest, the other two are going to a neighbor that lives 20 feet from us! Lol ( we're in town house style apartments ) Otherwise, I really don't think I could part with them either. I know what you're thinking lol but they have become a part of our family. And if I had the space, and the finances, I would have a million animals! They bring so much joy and are very therapeutic to us while we are ill. The simple sound of a purr often calms me when I'm in pain. And I'm fine with going without something, so I can instead put it towards them. Unfortunately though, the surgery isn't the same as going without your favorite type of coffee instead of the no name brand. The vet quoted us $700-$1100 for our female's surgery. And that's the cheapest one I have been able to find. Not only that, but we no longer drive. Therefore, we had to Uber there and back the last time. ( When our male cat had his surgery ) So, the reason for this long post is for advice/help with these expensive yet necessary surgeries. The surgery on the male cat is quicker and a bit cheaper. Hence the reason we got our male done first. The cost for his surgery was just over $650 which included his shots. ( Rabies. FVRCP ) And they won't do the surgery without for some reason. So, we need to get our female cat fixed immediately in case she slips out once again. And the 2 male kittens that we are keeping. I have started saving up again. However, this may take a while:( and I'm worried. I am making this post to ask if anyone knows of a more affordable veteran that would be able to work with us. Even on a payment plan?? As I would absolutely love to be able to bring all 3 animals at once ( one Uber cost ) and get this over and done with all at once. I have contacted every organization that I can find and I keep getting the same response. " They used to do this, but no longer do. " Even the SPCA no longer offer any kind of affordable options. And oddly their spay/neutering is more expensive than the veterinary clinic that I have found in Vancouver. We are now located in Richmond. As the cost of the apartment near VGH was astronomical and we had to move into a more affordable home. Also, our prayers were heard and I'm happy to say that my husband is doing much better than he was when we initially relocated from the Coast:) Every day is a blessing!
