Purpose of Job: As a Senior Sound Designer at Side Montreal, your responsibilities will be crafting, developing, producing and integrating the sound environment for video games and other visual media and may include leading projects and mentoring team members. You will lead in sound and display your passion for video games which will enable you to build captivating soundscapes, providing players and spectators with an immersive experience. You will play a key role in bringing the creative vision to life, working in collaboration with audio staff and the game design team. Duties and Key Responsibilities: Design and edit top-quality sound assets for video games, trailers, and other visual media, in accordance with the project's style and creative direction. Design systems—leveraging deep knowledge of audio middleware and game engines—to enable dynamic mixing hierarchies and audio systems in both stereo and surround environments, in collaboration with game design teams. Lead projects during planning, organize sound design–related content, and work closely with the creative director and project managers. Integrate sound assets into audio middleware (Wwise, FMOD) and game engines (Unreal, Unity, custom game engines). Sync and mix audio for linear media. Test, identify, and fix audio-related bugs. Understand basic scripting as it relates to game audio and workflow improvement. Collaborate effectively, attend meetings with the team and external partners. Contribute to documentation, project tracking, and procedures. Senior Responsibilities: Provide mentorship and coaching to team members. Offer regular feedback and support professional development by monitoring and evaluating performance. Support informed decision-making that impacts operations and overall team performance. Identify opportunities for process improvements. Assist in onboarding new team members and ensure their smooth integration into the organization. Build and maintain strong internal relationships. Understand ethical behavior and business practices, and ensure that your own conduct—and that of others—aligns with these standards and with the organization’s values. Knowledge, Experience and Skills: Substantial experience in game sound design, having held key roles on major shipped projects. Advanced knowledge of sound creation and high proficiency using a DAW (Reaper or Pro Tools), synchronized with visual material. Demonstrated understanding of the audio pipeline when working with middleware, and ability to execute advanced integration tasks in at least one game engine (UE5 preferred). Proficiency with spreadsheets and collaboration tools such as Confluence, Jira, and Trello. Proficiency with source control systems (Git, SVN, Perforce). Strong communication skills. Experience supporting and mentoring team members. Close collaboration with other disciplines on the team to improve workflows and realize the game’s vision. Passionate about video games.
