We are asking for your help to give him the safe, sanitary home he deserves.\r\n\r\nWe need to raise approximately $15,000 to renovate the dangerous, mold-ridden bathroom in our basement, which our autistic son uses daily. We are not asking for a luxury renovation; we are simply asking for a safe space, free from dangerous mold and sanitation issues.\r\n\r\nThe Problem: An Unsafe Environment\r\nOur home has a critical issue with its basement bathroom. It has been neglected for 21 years because we haven’t had any extra money and didn’t use it as often. Now, our son lives in the basement and relies on this space.\r\n\r\nThe current conditions are unacceptable and unsafe:\r\n\r\n• Severe Mold Risk: There has never been an exhaust fan installed, leading to constant moisture buildup and persistent, disgusting mold growth.\r\n• Structural Issues: The flooring was installed improperly and had to be ripped up; we are currently walking on bare concrete. The shower stall is detaching from the wall.\r\n• Sanitation: The toilet and shower are stained and frequently covered in pink and black mold that is impossible to fully sanitize.\r\n\r\nThe photos shown are after a clean; however, without proper ventilation and correctly installed fixtures, this hazardous mold returns, creating a never-ending cycle of health risks for our son and a losing battle for us.\r\nFor our son, who is autistic, a routine and clean, predictable environment are crucial for his well-being. The current unsanitary condition causes significant stress and anxiety for him every single day.\r\n\r\nWhy We Can't Do It Ourselves\r\nMy husband and I had hoped to renovate this ourselves. We thought we could manage the materials and just do the labor. Sadly, due to lack of funds and severe, chronic health conditions that impact our mobility and strength, this is simply not possible.\r\n• My husband has sustained permanent injuries, as a direct result of a serious, high-speed rear-end collision. He experiences severe chronic pain in his back, neck, and shoulders. Furthermore, the collision caused a traumatic brain injury (TBI) that has led to ongoing migraines and cognitive issues, specifically memory loss and diminished mental processing.\r\n• I suffer from severe Fibromyalgia (widespread pain, fatigue, and cognitive issues) and advanced arthritis in my hip, neck, back, hands, and wrists.\r\n• Our son is autistic and needs support rather than being able to help with strenuous labor.\r\n\r\nWe are a family without local support—our few family members are elderly and/or live several hours away, and we have no friends who can assist with construction.\r\n\r\nHow Your Donation Helps\r\nWe are all currently on the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) and are struggling to maintain basic financial stability. We have no savings for materials, let alone professional, accessible labor costs, and a small safety buffer for any structural damage found. We are happy to provide documentation of our ODSP status and medical conditions to any major donors or organizations who wish to verify our need. We have looked into other programs such as The March of Dimes, and ODSP to assist however, they only cover disability related modifications so, we don’t qualify.\r\n\r\nWe are currently in the process of obtaining formal quotes from local contractors. We have set our initial goal at $15,000 based on average costs for materials and professional labor in 2025.
