Greetings Ottawa Chess Community! My name is Andrew Wright and I am excited to announce that I will be offering affordable chess lessons for players looking to improve their playing ability through a variety of different methods based on a specific preferred learning environment. I am presenting this opportunity in such a way that allows for individuals anywhere from total beginner to intermediate level to sharpen their skills and gain confidence in making strong moves in the pursuit of victory. My aim is to provide reasonably priced, player specific paths for improvement and act as a stepping stone for anyone to reach their goals and achieve great things in this wonderful game. My approach will involve two main types of scheduled sessions, which are recurring lessons and one-off packages depending on what the person wants to get out of the meeting. I reside in the east end of Ottawa (Orleans), and would be more than happy to offer lessons in my home or through an arranged meeting online. Before I get to the services offered, allow me to explain a little bit about myself and that of my chess background. Once again, I am Andrew Wright, 24 years of age, and have had a love for the game of chess for as long as I can remember. My relationship with chess involves casual exposure as a child, off and on dedication in my teens, and deep commitment into adulthood. I have played this game for thousands of hours, playing many games of every time control, with a weighted focus on the Blitz and Rapid format online. Over the span of somewhere around 5000 games across the two dominant websites, I hit a peak rating of 2028 in the rapid pool on lichess.org, and a peak of 1858 on chess.com. I have also solved more than 10,000 positional/tactical puzzles and have access to an extensive library of chess literature. For those reasons, I believe without a doubt that the combination of my dedicated experience playing the game, and my ability to articulate fundamental concepts in a clear, digestible way, will allow anyone considering reaching out to significantly improve the way they approach the numerous facets of chess, and find satisfaction in besting their opponents by doing the work to correct their own flaws. What I offer: Free over the phone consultation before any decision is made $15/hr recurring lessons (weekly/bi-weekly/monthly/as needed) $50 one time game review package (involving the breakdown of a selected sample of games, mistake pattern analysis, follow up conversation, roadmap for long term improvement, written summary of findings) A note for parents and younger students: For younger students, I believe it's very important that the pre-lesson consultation involve a discussion of any relevant details regarding the arrangement. I want lessons to feel comfortable, appropriate, and transparent, and my teaching style needs to reflect established boundaries so the interaction can facilitate the most efficient learning environment, while keeping things professional. This is meant to be a fun way of turning passion for the game of chess into concrete results, not to run a textbook, robotic, or stale information overload. For in person lessons especially, I welcome and encourage parents to sit in on sessions so they can feel comfortable about my conduct. To get the ball rolling: If you have read up to this point in my posting, I would like to offer the first 10 responders the chance to receive the previously mentioned $50 one-time game review package, free of charge, as a way for me to pilot my methods for mutual benefit. For the individual whose name is randomly selected, my analysis of your games will be publicized, but in a way that protects your identity in the interest of showcasing my methodology. Eligibility: what I need from you in addition to any normal inquiries regarding the service Your approximate chess rating in the most frequented environment (likely online, website included) What you are looking to improve A brief explanation of why chess is important to you Whether you would prefer an online or in person lesson if your intentions are to move forward with the coaching Consent for anonymized portions of the completed review to be publicly shared as a sample of the service To be clear, eligibility is unaffected whether you share this post or not, my intention is not to force exposure. I welcome students of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels that I feel can reasonably improve from my skillset, and hope that what I have to offer can lead to the swift improvement of anyone who shares the same love that I have for everything chess related. If you have any further questions feel free to send me a message and we can discuss further!
