1963 AMPEG Big M-15
Basic Info
Description
It's time to downsize. This amplifier sounds fantastic and is in excellent condition. Equipped with the famous ALTEC 418-8H Series II speaker. It also includes a foot pedal for tremolo. Price is firm—no trades, please. The Ampeg M-15, introduced in 1959, featured a circuit very similar to that of the M-12 Mercury, differing primarily in its use of a 15-inch speaker and higher operating voltages enabled by a 5U4GB rectifier tube and two 6L6GC power tubes. As expected, the M-15 delivered a tone closely resembling that of the M-12, but richer and with deeper bass. The "Big M" was perfectly suited for rock and blues and handled effects pedals well. In fact, Ampeg dubbed it the "Big M," seemingly meaning "Big Mercury." Curiously, this name appeared on the M-15's control panel only starting in 1963 and remained in use until production ended in 1965.
