It was wilderness. Large trees obscured the sun and apparently wild animals were plentiful. The Lovekin Family still live on their original farm and have been on this land for 215 years, the longest tenure of a property owned by one family in Canada! Chester Massey constructed and opened the Newcastle Village Community Hall in August 1923. After a catered meal + live orchestra, there were five days of celebration in Newcastle that week, including water sports at the Lake, canoe and boat races, greasy pole and + tub competitions, bathing suit competitions and music performed by the Newtonville Band.
